As far as the training on the ingester tool is concerned, the participants in the Rome and Berlin training workshops should bring a sample of their items metadata in xml (http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/). Particular attention is required for characters in metadata that need escaping (like: &, <, >) http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/#dt-escape.

To clarify the part about escaped sequences:

Characters like "<" and "&" are illegal in XML elements. In text and attribute values, you need to escape those ASCII characters using the following encodings:

' '
" "
< <
> >
& &

For example, the text:

"Me, Myself & "
should be encoded in XML as:
"Me, myself & "
